Mods heroes 3 hd I would take in this case more than classic heroes 3!
If you talk about resolution then there's the HD mod which also adds a lot more features. H3 had pre-rendered graphics made in 3d, h3 hd ubi has a photoshop filter applied on them. The HD version was an opportunity to do something about heroes 3 and do not turn away from graphics today. This comes from someone who has modded h7 extensively. The game is still the same and no more than 2000 modes will save it, and the future is at Heroes 7, which is better than repair.
